NIDA/SAMHSA-ATTC Blending Initiative

(Under Construction)

To Blend: combine into an integrated whole; produce a harmonious effect

Harnessing the skills, resources, and knowledge of two Federal agencies to facilitate moving important scientific findings into mainstream addiction treatment practice is the goal of the NIDA/SAMHSA-ATTC Blending Initiative. Developed in 2001 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), this project is designed to meld science and practice together to improve substance use disorder treatment.

To accomplish this goal, "Blending Teams" comprised of staff from SAMHSA/CSAT's Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network and researchers and community treatment providers from NIDA's Clinical Trials Network (CTN) collaborate to develop a strategic plan and products used to disseminate research results identified by NIDA. The ultimate goal is for the addiction treatment workforce to adopt and implement these evidence based practices into their everyday work.
